God is the creator of all things, yet so often we blindly look at the work of darkness and Satan himself and give Satan credit for some of his power and doings when Satan and everything he is and has came originally from God as one of God’s creations. In a similar way when we look at a manifestation of Satan in the creature, leviathan, we often don’t look at this monster as from God.
Leviathan is mentioned in many places in the Bible but one chapter in the book of Job goes into extensive detail on leviathan. I want to point out the part of this description where leviathan is described as a fire breathing dragon.
Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth. Job chapter forty one, verses 19 through 21
History gives us tales of knights slaying fire breathing dragons which sound a lot like the description of leviathan. Well this little study is not about going deep into the study of Satan and leviathan but to point out that this biblical entity which is said to breath fire is a fallen creation of God, not a creation of Satan. Satan is mentioned in several places in the Bible to be an anointed cherub that was at the throne of God before he fell. This is where I am going, to throne of God and those cherubs that are still there.
Zechariah
If you are like me, when you read some of the Old Testament prophets, you can easily get lost in the story because they are in a heavenly vision then next walking out some prophetic act on earth, then speaking to the end time and your head begins to spin. Zachariah is having one of those heavenly encounters and is being given a tour by and angel in chapter four of Zachariah. Even Zachariah was having a hard time, he had to ask the angel three times to get an answer as to what he was seeing.
And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof: And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Zachariah chapter four verses 2 through 5
Zachariah is not clear on what he is seeing and asks the angel and the angel seems to act like maybe Zachariah should have known what they were but does not give an answer. Let’s continue in Zachariah.
Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof? And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth. Zachariah chapter four, verses 11 through 14
Zachariah almost seemed to be impatient having to ask three times what he was seeing before getting the answer, the two anointed ones that stand by the Lord.
During my life as a believer, I have listened to many “End Time Bible Prophesy” teachers on who the two witnesses are in the book of Revelation. Some teach this and some teach that. The most convincing is that it will be Enoch and Elijah because both of the were taken by God and did not see an earthly death. Saying all that to respectfully disagree and just look at the what the Word says. The Word say they are fire breathing angels, Lucifer’s remaining counter part.
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. Revelation chapter eleven, verses 3 through 6
These two witnesses are described very closely to resemble what Zachariah saw hundreds of years before. Zachariah saw both candle sticks and olive trees, just as John did. The Bible is so awesome that all the mysteries can be clear as day as He reveals and shows us the way.
